6% from the prior year). In Sacramento only 24% of
households could afford a median-priced home.
The minimum household income needed to buy a
median-priced home (of $473,260) in California last
November was $109,670 assuming a 5.70% interest
rate with 20% down). The minimum household
income needed to purchase a median-priced home
(of $188,200) in the U.S was $43,610.
In 2005 new home construction in California isn’t
meeting State housing needs, falling short by nearly
40,000 units.
